Phillips Pet Food and Supplies is known to be one of the largest distributors of pet food and supplies in the US. In 2017, they acquired PetFlow, an exclusively e-commerce pet food and supplies retailer. However, Phillips found themselves in a situation where many of their core customers (most of which were small, independently-owned brick-and-mortar pet stores) felt on edge.

With the advent of the new acquisition, many of these small brick-and-motar businesses without an online presence felt that their supplier, notably one of the largest in the nation, was looking to take their customers away from them.

After all, Phillips Pet Food and Supplies is a substantial player in distribution and they had just purchased an established online-only retailer for themselves.

The reality of the situation was that Phillips Pet Food and Supplies was not aiming to replace many of their small brick-and-mortar customers. They simply wanted to give them the ability to offer more variety and products without the need to stock all those items in each variation, size or color in their small stores.
